Dear Friends, I pray that you and your loved ones enjoyed a blessed and safe 4th of July. Having the holiday fall in the middle of the week makes it tough to know which weekend the holiday might get attached to it. In any case, as my granddad would always tell us kids teasingly, “summer is half over” when you get to the 4th. Although it may seem that way, there are many more summer weeks ahead, which I hope will be beneficial to all of us spiritually, mentally and physically before the full schedule of Fall sets in. Dear Friends, Religious Freedom Week concluded this past Friday on the solemn feast of Saints Peter and Paul, June 29. This US Bishops’ initiative invited us to reflect on the gifts and challenges to Religious Freedom in our modern world, both at home and worldwide. Religious Freedom is rooted in human nature and therefore is a fundamental human right. Dear Friends, As I noted last weekend in this column, today (Sunday, July 22) begins Natural Family Planning Awareness Week, a national educational campaign of the US Bishops to celebrate God’s design for married love, the gift of life and to raise awareness of Natural Family Planning (NFP) methods. Dear Friends, Beginning Sunday, July 22, we celebrate Natural Family Planning Awareness Week, a national educational campaign of the US Bishops to celebrate God’s design for married love, the gift of life and to raise awareness of Natural Family Planning (NFP) methods. This year’s theme is “Generations of Love: Humanae vitae (1968-2018).” This year marks the 50th anniversary of Blessed Pope Paul VI’s encyclical, Humanae vitae, “On Human Life,” in which he articulates the Church’s teaching about human sexuality, conjugal love and responsible parenthood.
