Festival, ChristLife and Respect Life

Dear Friends,

What a glorious Sunday afternoon we  received last weekend for our second Amazing Harvest Festival! It was a real “summer afternoon” weather wise, adding to the ambience of festivities, games, contests, entertainment, food trucks, CYO Hoagies, Eagles football and all around enjoyable camaraderie for all our parish family. A very good time was had by all, both the young and the young-at-heart. Thank you to everyone who stopped around, enjoyed the many events and participated throughout the day. And to all those who          volunteered to help “run” or coordinate the various booths, games, the bounce house, and you-name-it, as well as all those who set up, cleaned up, assisted with the parking, and the parish staff on site, thank you most sincerely.

In a very special way, I want to express a profound word of deep gratitude to all those who organized and worked so tirelessly this past year and so intensely the week leading up to the Festival. Your efforts were heroic and shined forth in the good and enjoyable time had by all. You are blessed disciples working on behalf of all our parish family. One more word of profound thanks to the various companies and individuals who helped to sponsor this basically free event so that we all could enjoy ourselves and spend time together on our parish campus.

The reason the chairperson has identified this event as a “Harvest” Festival is to highlight the fact that we, disciples of the Lord Jesus, the parish family of Saint Eleanor, are the Lord’s Harvest. He came in search of us to set us free. We have responded to His gracious and loving gift of redemption. And, as His disciples we strive to help one another grow in His gifts and His grace. Sunday was an opportunity to be with one another, share good times together, to smile and give thanks that we are indeed blessed to be the harvest of the Lord. How beautiful to reflect on this gift and to experience the joy of serving the Lord and sharing with each other in such a celebratory setting. May God bless us all with deeper faith, hope and love!

Our second series of ChristLife ~ Following Christ ~ is set to begin. This series is for those who have completed the first series ~ Discovering Christ. We are very excited to continue to this series for our parish family. I am very grateful to the team who coordinates this and those who have participated so far. Keep your eyes peeled here and on our other social media  outlets for information on how to sign up for the next         Discovering Christ series, the introductory series, scheduled to begin January 8 and opened to all our parishioners.

Don’t know about you, but September went by quicker than ever. May we all take a deep breath, as we remember the mercies of the Lord, rejoicing that “at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord…”

On this Respect Life Sunday as we enter the month dedicated to the Rosary and Respect Life, may our surrender to the Lord help us to do all that we can so that every heart will be moved to, and every law and decision of civil servants will, respect and defend human life from conception to its natural end.

God bless you, God love you,

Monsignor McCulken
