On this Veterans Day weekend, we salute and honor all veterans who faithfully served our country. We are grateful for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for freedom. We also want to give thanks for all who are serving our country now in the Armed Services. May God bless and protect them in the fulfillment of their duties.
Our ChristLife series, Sharing Christ, the third part of a three part series, has been meeting together for the past five weeks. This Monday evening will be their final evening gathering before their daylong retreat on Saturday, November 17. The participants will all be present at the 4:30 pm Vigil Mass that day and receive a blessing to help them in discipleship to share Christ with everyone they meet.
This three part series is a true blessing and a gift to all who participate in it. We have seen a wonderful turn out for it and will begin the series anew in January with Discovering Christ. Discovering Christ is 7-week series focused on growing more deeply in one’s personal relationship with Jesus. It includes dinner, a video presentation, prayer and small group faith sharing. I cannot praise this series enough and don’t know the words to use to encourage you to sign up for it. No matter what your present relationship is or is not with the Lord Jesus, you will find great strength and insight through this series. The last time we had a waiting list for the series, so don’t hesitate when registration goes live ~ sign up early.
In this month of the Holy Souls, we remember all of our faithful departed in prayer accompanying them who are part of the great Communion of Saints. As I mentioned last weekend, this month also is the kick off for the Seminary Annual Appeal. Last year we were among the top ten parishes in contributions to the vital work of Saint Charles Seminary. Thank you for your past generosity and for your ongoing support of priestly and diaconal formation as well as the theological studies available for religious and laity at the Seminary. Seminarian Andrew Clark will speak at all the Masses next weekend.
This year again, the Vocation Office is sponsoring the Called By Name program. We participated in this program three years ago. It is a parishioner based program to identify young men who have the proper qualities for priestly service. Many young men find the courage to think more deeply about a priestly vocation when someone asks them about it or tells them they have the right qualities. Cards will be available in the pews this weekend so that you may submit the names of young men you think qualified. They will receive an invitation from the Vocation Office to consider a priestly vocation. Thanks for your participation.
Thanksgiving is just around the corner. It’s a bit early this year. We will have only one Mass at 9 am. As has become our tradition, we will bless bread that you will be able to take home after Mass and use for your Thanksgiving dinner. Is Christmas far behind?
Just two weeks after Thanksgiving, Saturday, December 8 we are planning a Sacred Music concert and a Blessing of Créches (Nativity Sets). You are invited to bring your Nativity sets from home, which will be blessed, and to enjoy a fine program of sacred music.
God bless you, God love you,
