Happy Mother's Day
Happy Mother’s Day to all in our parish family graced with such a blessed vocation! There will be a special blessing for Mothers at the end of Mass this weekend. On this special day, may our most Blessed Mother Mary protect and guide all mothers and all of us. Also at the end of our 10:30 am Mass, we will celebrate our devotion to our Blessed Lady with a crowning of her statue in our Sanctuary, with the help of our Youth Group and First Communicants.
We are very proud to share wonderful news about three of our grade eight students at Holy Cross Regional. Holly Binkowski, Jessica Carlini and Lauren Catalano were installed last Sunday as Neumann Scholars by the Connelly Foundation. This is a prestigious award based on academic accomplishment. Over 1300 students took a competitive exam and 34 Neuman Scholars were awarded. The scholars receive four-year scholarships to the Archdiocesan high school of their choice. Congratulations to these Neuman Scholars and best wishes!
On Saturday, May 18 Archbishop Chaput will ordain seven deacons as priests for our Archdiocese. Among them will be Rev. Mr. Alessandro Giardini who spent a year with us as an Acolyte. Deacon Alessandro did come back and preached at all our Masses last June on Trinity Sunday, after his diaconate ordination. He looks forward to celebrating Mass here before he begins his first priestly assignment. Pray for him and all those being ordained that they will always surrender to God’s graces doing His will faithfully and joyfully in priestly ministry.
Today is also known as Good Shepherd Sunday for in the Gospel for today Jesus is identified as the Good Shepherd. The figure of the Good Shepherd is the most ancient artistic image of Jesus. On this Sunday, we celebrate the World Day of Prayer for Vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, consecrated religious life, and societies of apostolic life. The focus of this celebration is to publicly fulfill the Lord’s instruction, “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest” (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). On the laminated cards in the back of our missalettes along with the Saint Michael Prayer, there is a prayer for vocations. Please say a prayer for vocations while at Church this weekend and pray daily for vocations. Thank you.
