Sancity of Life

Dear Friends,

We had a visit from several enthusiastic and energetic Villanova students on Saturday, September 21. The purpose of their visit was to volunteer their services to help with the Fall cleanup of our flower beds around Church. Mrs. Rachel Holdsworth, our most dedicated leader of our Gardening Angels, along with some other parish volunteers coordinated this event to a beautiful success. We are very grateful to Rachel, to all our Gardening Angels and to these Villanova students for their thoughtful attention to the gardening needs around Church. It is a very large job. Thank you very much!

October is the month dedicated to the Rosary and to Respect Life. What a blessing that this one month has this dual focus. At this time in history, we are witnesses of increasing attacks and threats against human life through abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide, euthanasia and the attacks against the protection of conscience rights for individuals and institutions. The increasing reach of a culture of death threatens and overcomes not just the individuals directly affected but our society and each one of us as well.

Alarmed by what we see happening around us, we do not give into despair. Our daily and decades long efforts to cherish, protect, defend and promote the sanctity of human life, in this country and in this world, is rooted in Jesus Christ. Jesus is our Hope, the Hope of all the world. It is Jesus and His Light that we bring to the darkness of this world. It is Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection that is our hope and our faith, and which stirs us onto perseverance, renewing and strengthening us to live and share the Gospel of Life with everyone we meet, where ever we find ourselves.

May our prayers, rosaries, penances and sacrifices bring down the graces of God to soften the hearts of our brothers and sisters and to bring about renewal and change in our laws and our culture. As we pray at the end of every Mass, Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Holy Cross Regional Catholic School is hosting a special community event, a Family Fairytale – Adventure Fun Party, Sunday afternoon (October 6) from 1 – 3 pm in the school. Designed for all pre-school children through grade 2 no matter what school they attend, it promises to be a fun time to meet princesses and super heroes while enjoying games, face painting and more. The children are encouraged to dress up but costumes are not required to attend. Come and enjoy a great afternoon together, one and all.

God bless you, God love you,

Monsignor McCulken
