Time of Celebration

Dear Friends,

This Fall is a busy one with the celebrations of First Communion and Confirmation. Due to the restrictions of the pandemic, we scheduled 5 First Communions and several private family ones. Each was beautiful and the children were truly great in their reverence and faith while handling the additional burden of masks. A touching feature this year was that the children sat with their parents and siblings and each family group came up together to the Altar to receive our Lord.

Two Confirmation Masses were celebrated by Bishop Fitzgerald on Saturday, October 3, two more will be celebrated by me this coming week and one private family celebration. What a grace that despite the necessary safety limitations, our parish family is celebrating and receiving the Sacraments which give us life.

Jesus Christ is Lord, our Lord, and our Savior. We turn to Him. We place our trust and hope in Him. Jesus is with us here and now. Jesus is leading us forward. On our part, we must make it our top priority, our highest priority, to pray, to listen and to spend time with Jesus, whether it is in Church, at home or even walking through nature. Jesus cannot help us or lead us unless we turn to Him and seek Him and surrender our wills to His. Jesus wants to fill us with every grace that we need for our salvation and He waits for us to seek Him. Let us do so with great “gusto” and joy.

Let me take a moment to give a shout out and offer heartfelt thanks to our Ambassadors serving at every weekend Mass and on other occasions as well! This new ministry has come about due to our present circumstances. But what a blessing it is! There is a great need to welcome, assist and connect with all those coming to our weekend Masses. This is the primary role of our Ambassadors. Additionally, they assist in sanitizing the Church after Mass and before the next Mass begins, which is an essential service at this time. But the real joy is the welcoming and connectedness that is taking place, helping those coming to Church to enter more easily and readily into our worship and praise of God at Holy Mass.

I wish also to acknowledge gratefully our new leadership for this ministry ~ Marie and Fred Marvel and Patty Flynn. This ministry is a true “team” effort and a real practice in discipleship. We invite you to consider becoming one of our vibrant Ambassadors, even just once a month. You will be blessed as well.

Don’t forget, as shared with you last weekend, we will shortly be launching the parish wide survey ~ Disciple Maker Index as part of our participation in the Catholic Leadership Institute’s Next Generation Catholic Parish Initiative. We look forward to your help in this effort as we strive to do all we can to pass on the gifts of faith and discipleship to our children and to their children.

God bless you, God love you,

Monsignor McCulken
